Blessings Unmeasured

The past month, I have loved reading all of the things that people are thankful for on Facebook.  It inspired me to share some of the blessings that I have, but I thought I’d put my own spin on it, so I tried to think of the blessings that I sometimes overlook or take for granted.  Hence the name, Blessings Unmeasured.   These are just a few of the blessings that I have been given, and don’t always remember to count.

·         Mountains of Laundry-I know, it is neverending, and it smells bad, but for me, it signifies an abundance in our home.  I can go for days, trying to catch up, and never succeeding.  Obviously, we have been blessed beyond measure when it comes to having enough clothes to keep our bottoms covered.

·         Work To Do- or more accurately, the ability to work.  I just finished reading a book about a mom who had been in a terrible accident, that left her unable to care for her little family for months.  When she was finally able to fold her own laundry and cook her own meals for her children, she cried tears of joy.  I must admit, I have never cried tears of joy because I could fold my own clothes, or cook my own eggs.  It made me realize that I needed to be grateful for the ability to work and care for my home and family.

·         Logan’s Back Trouble-it may seem crazy that I counted this one as a blessing, but I think it has been.  This past year, especially this fall, my sweetie has been struggling with a couple of herniated discs in his back.  The pain has been debilitating, and he has spent much of this fall flat on his back, unable to work or even get out of bed.  It has helped me to appreciate just how much my sweetheart does for our family, and just how lost we would be without him.  It also made me grateful all over again for his love and care when I was struggling with health issues of my own.  I have been so grateful for the chance to return some of the care and compassion he has given to me.  Having just said that it is a blessing, doesn’t negate the fact that I will be super-happy when he is Happy, Healthy and Strong again!!!

·          Magic Markers and Sparkles Everywhere-I love our home, it is my favorite place to be, but to say that it is a mess is the understatement of the century.  Yes, there is yellow sharpie all over the front room wall today.  Yes, there is laundry (dirty and clean, sometimes mixed together) stacked on the couches and all the dressers.  And yes, today there are sparkles all over the kitchen floor. Tomorrow, I will use the blessing of work to put our home back together.  Today, I will relish the blessing of knowing that, while our home probably won’t ever be featured in Martha Stewart, or Home Beautiful, it is home, and my children love it here.  They are happy making messes, and learning to help clean them up.  I love that our home is a happy place for them, whether or not it is picture perfect.

·         Mistakes-and the lessons that are learned from them.  I am grateful for the choices that have led me to where I am today.  Not all of them have been wise, but I have learned from my where I have been, and I would not be the woman I am today without the unwise decisions of my youth.  I know that wickedness will never lead to happiness, no matter how many times you tell yourself you are happy.  I know that real happiness comes from our Father in Heaven, and from following his counsel each day.  Along with mistakes, I am so very thankful for repentance, and the atonement, which make it possible for us to find happiness in this life, and the next.

....this post was supposed to be longer, and also finished in November.  I have been sidetracked with a few hectic, stressful weeks, and finally just decided to post it as is, which means half-finished.  I promise to share the rest when life settles back down a little, probably right after Christmas!!!
